DEFCON is a real-time strategy game created by independent British game developer Introversion Software, developers of Darwinia, Multiwinia, and Uplink. The gameplay is reminiscent of the "big boards" that visually represented thermonuclear war in the films Dr. Strangelove, Fail-Safe, and especially WarGames.

Gameplay[]

Players are presented with a simple vector world map, a variety of units such as nuclear submarines, and the goal of decimating the population of opposing countries (everyone) through the use of these weapons. In most games, the civilian population of the player's countries will suffer heavy casualties so the game's goal is to minimise these casualties.

Strategy mainly revolves around diplomacy with other players as the game is mainly played online. As well as this, the player needs to keep a balance between attacking opponents and defending his countries from counter attacks.

Trivia[]

  • A version of DEFCON was completed for the Nintendo DS but, due to trouble securing a publisher, never released.
