A meme in the TIGSource community, referring to any game which resembles Cave Story, but also often ironically applied to games which only vaguely or indirectly resemble Cave Story.

Derek Yu began this meme by leading his legions of blog commenters to call The Underside a Cave Story rip off. Arthur Lee, creator of The Underside, has never overcome his shame and it is one of the reasons Lee started PIGScene, which relentlessly mocks Yu's TIGSource.
